Preston Mitchum came to attention in July 2017 when he claimed that “Yes, ALL white people are racist. Yes, ALL men are sexist. Yes, ALL cis people are transphobic.” He similarly tweeted on July 15 that, ““I really, really, really, really, really, really hate cops. Hate them.”[1]

In responding to his comments, Prof. Mitchum told Campus reform that “simply being a part of any dominant group when it comes to race, gender, sexuality, etc. contributes to the oppression of other groups period.” Following the ensuing backlash against him ensued, Mitchum took issue with what he considers the “textbook definition of racism,” arguing that it ignored the experiences of the only ones experiencing it: people of color.[2]
