Rashid Khalidi has a long history of documented partnership with Islamist entities. In the 1970’s and 1980’s, several mainstream publications, from the New York to the LA Times, identified Khalidi as “a PLO spokesman.” He served as an advisor to the Palestinian delegation to the Madrid and Washington Arab-Israeli peace negotiations from 1991-1993.
In February 2016, Khalidi also led the release of a petition, signed by 40 members of the Columbia faculty, that urged the university “to divest from companies that supply, perpetuate, and profit from a system that has subjugated the Palestinian people.” The petition was released in concert with the first day of Israel Apartheid Week, and the signatories attested to standing “with Columbia University Apartheid Divest, Columbia Students for Justice in Palestine as well as with Jewish Voice for Peace in calling upon the University to take a moral stance against Israel’s violence in all its forms.”
Most recently, in January 2017, Khalidi, during an interview with Chicago public radio station WBEZ, lamented that supporters of Israel would have a greater influence on President Trump and “infest” the U.S. government. He went on to say, “so they have a vision whereby the occupied territories aren’t occupied, they have a vision whereby there is no such thing as the Palestinians, they have a vision whereby international law doesn’t exist, they have a vision whereby the United States can unilaterally cancel a decision in the United Nations.”
