As’ad Abukhalil is considered a leading BDS activist. In an article on the subject he wrote, “The real aim of BDS is to bring down the state of Israel … that should be stated as an unambiguous goal… Justice and Freedom for the Palestinians are incompatible with the existence of the state of Israel.” A Campus Watch report went further, describing Abukhalil as the top unofficial US-based propagandist for Hezbollah.
In a 2011 debate televised on Al-Jazeera, Abukhalil blamed Israeli influence over Saudi Arabia for incitement on Saudi media being ignored, claimed that President Obama “has given free reign to the Zionist lobby to do whatever it likes,” and that “the Zionists want to muzzle us, so that we won’t oppose the wars, violence, or hatred of Israel.” Furthermore, in a speech for Public Solidarity in 2013, he argued that BDS should strive “for the full liberation of Palestine, the return of all refugees and the removal of every single vestige of Zionism from Palestine.” In the same speech he accused Israel and Zionist organizations of “a cheap, grotesque exploitation of the Holocaust for political purposes.”
