Grover Furr has built a reputation as a Stalinist and Communist expert who views America as the world’s biggest oppressor and terrorist state. Reflecting on the subject, Furr has said, “the Western imperialists, the U.S. among them, are the biggest mass murderers in history… The U.S. is even more guilty [of genocide] than Pol Pot.” He has also applauded the violence that followed the Rodney King verdict, accused the U.S. of being behind the 1981 assassination attempt of Pope John Paul II and argued that the U.S. got what it deserved on 9/11.
He has similarly denied that Stalin was responsible for the murder of millions, saying that he, “has yet to find one crime – one crime that Stalin committed.” Prof. Furr also led the radical caucus of the MLA, and in 2015 presided over their session on BDS-support at Montclair State.
